HOTEL LA VAGUE DE SAINT PAUL

The building initially founded in the late ’70s by the famous architect André Minangoy, La Vague de Saint Paul is nestled in the heart of the hills vençoises and only at 2km from the medieval village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Design fitting, arty architecture, refined style and modern decoration, La Vague invites you to travel between modernity and Provencal decor.

Renovated in 2012, the actual 4-star hotel opened its doors in March 2013. 50 rooms, bar & restaurant, spa, 4 meeting rooms, outdoor swimming pool, petanque, gardens, tennis court: a unique property where interior and exterior are in harmony.

The hotel comprises 44 rooms, 2 junior suites and 4 suites. Spread across 3 floors, all rooms are furnished in a style befitting the design and structure of the building, yet each one has its own soul, emanates its own ambience and expresses its own perspective.

Chef Akhara Chay is at the head of the kitchen of the gastronomic restaurant Au Jardin de la Vague: a contemporary interior where works of art and colours are mixed, a terrace between vegetation and panoramic view on the swimming-pool and olive trees.

Apprentice with Ghislaine Arabian at the « Pavillon Ledoyen » in Paris, Alain Ducasse at the Park and St James in Paris, Eric Provost at the « Royal Barriere » in Deauville where he helps to win a Michelin-star, Akhara Chay passed the exam of the Ecole des Chefs at the Institut Paul Bocuse. He joins in 2005 the « Mas Candille» in Mougins next to Serge Gouloumès and helps again to obtain a Michelin-star, then became Chef in prestigious houses such as the « Mas des Herbes Blanches» in Luberon and the « Château Valmer» near St Tropez. Maître Restaurateur and Disciple d’Escoffier, Chef Akhara Chay immerses you today in a creative culinary cuisine sprinkled with Asian flavours from his Cambodian and Thaï origins. Since 2019, Chef Chay is helped in his work by Pastry Chef Frederic Benvenuti, who has also started out in famous restaurants such as the « Vieux Castillon » in Avignon in 2010 or the hotel-restaurant “Mas Candille” in Mougins in 2012 where he has improved his art for 6 years. A dynamic duo to highlight the restaurant and its newly refurbished opened kitchen, allowing guests to see them prepare, cook and arrange the delightful served aromas.

Before or after this timeless experience, take time to have a drink at the bar and enjoy unique cocktails based on home-made preparations and especially thought to combine themselves with the Chef’s cuisine. Un Sushi, Flower Lover, Mediterranean Fizz, Passion Elixir: are you not thirsty?

If not, why don’t you open the door of the Spa and enter in a space dedicated to the well-being? Hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, fitness centre and beauty parlour make it a real haven of peace which invites to gain a real sensory experience that allows you to restore your body and spirit balance, to preserve the beauty of your skin, to regain your natural vitality.

Well-being can also be found in the park of La Vague de Saint Paul. In the beginning, the owners found a house that had been stripped of its soul in the middle of a park which had been reclaimed and overrun by nature. After having studied the history of the building and the work of its architect, André Minangoy, who spearheaded several projects which were very avant-garde for their time, they noticed that the building featured an extremely strong design, integrated seamlessly into the surrounding environment. All they had to do was reawaken the building from its slumber. They reconstructed the building based on its original and simplified structure in order to re-establish the connection between interior and exterior and make the garden an integral part of the concept. And so is the park the one known today: a peaceful setting ideal for relaxation and the quest of the peace of mind. Read a book under the olive trees, have a chat on the grass, enjoy petanque with friends or even play tennis or ping pong if it is your loophole! However, relaxation at the edge of the pool is probably the most popular choice, don’t you think?

Batteries are now recharged with a refined and gourmet meal, an exceptional cocktail (or mocktail !) and peaceful digestion… Time to work and meet others! Equipped with four meeting rooms and a restaurant with seating for over 100 guests, La Vague de Saint Paul is an ideal location to host professional events. Whether an executive board meeting in the Salon des Oliviers, a plenary session in the Auditorium, a training workshop or sub-committee meeting in the Salon Riviera, refreshments and cocktails inside in the bar or outside under the olive trees, La Vague has an offering to suit every occasion. Cars, perfumes, watches, albums… Likewise, spaces can be adapted to needs for launches: the auditorium can be turned into a showroom, the Salon Riviera can host a press conference, the gardens can accommodate vehicles, the parking lot can provide room for test drives, the pool can offer an idyllic backdrop for cocktails.

Speaking of cocktails (again!), the property is a real green setting and an environment full of serenity, so the perfect spot to celebrate the most beautiful moments of life. La Vague de Saint Paul is a workplace but above all a place a life and charm, a place of reunion in all senses of the word. Birthdays, anniversaries, exams or just fun can be organised too on the sunny terrace or in the cosy restaurant over a delightful meal by Chef Akhara Chay and Pastry Chef Frederic Benvenuti.

One can not speak about this hotel without speaking about sport and art. Veritable resort combining leisure amenities, meeting rooms and sports facilities, La Vague de Saint Paul is itself nestled between land and sea, 20 minutes from Nice and 1.5 hours from Valberg. It is a key player in local sporting life due to its prime geographical location and, as you could read above, offers everything you need for a getaway to recharge your batteries or test your sporting prowess. The region’s extensive cycle tourism network, for example, is just a few minutes away. They even are equipped with a secure bike room with everything you need to take care of your two wheels (pumps, tools, bike racks, washing station) and can arrange a picnic especially prepared for you by the restaurant team.

Art is at the heart of La Vague: you can see that from the entrance of the hotel. Located not far from Saint-Paul de Vence, it seems to be obvious in away. Traditional fortified village dating back to the XIV century perched atop a hill between Nice and Cannes, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in Provence and was for a long time a favoured destination of artists from far and wide: Marc Chagall made his home here. Henri Matisse lived nearby, in Vence. Jean-Paul Sartre, Pablo Picasso, Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, Lino Ventura and poet Jacques Prévert used to frequent the famous hotel-restaurant La Colombe d’Or. Today, Saint-Paul de Vence remains an extremely popular tourist destination, attracting more than 2 million visitors a year. La Vague follows this heritage and organises exhibitions indoors and in the gardens from its opening. Each year puts forward a new theme, new artists, international or local, famous or emerging, new decoration, new atmosphere as if La Vague takes on a new lease of life each beginning of the season.
