Celebrating AQVA at Vatican City: Arius Europe CEO, Marco Antonio Soriano, Attending Inaugural 'AQVA' Exhibition with Pope Leo XIV

Earlier this month, Marco Antonio Soriano, CEO of Arius Technology Europe, was honored to attend the VIP inauguration of the landmark exhibition ‘AQVA’ at Vatican City this week. Officially unveiled by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on September 14, 2026, at the historic Vatican Apostolic Library (Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana), the showcase marks the first chapter of the library's major multi-year exhibition series, Catastrofe e Meraviglia ("Catastrophe and Wonder").

The much-awaited AQVA exhibition explores humanity's evolving relationship with water. Examining both its role as a vital life resource and its potential threat to cultural artifacts, alongside historical scientific manuscripts, contemporary site-specific art installations, and archival restoration displays. This exclusive invitation underscores the growing intersection between Arius’ advanced 3D art digitization capabilities and the Vatican's ongoing efforts to document, safeguard, and present irreplaceable human heritage.

Capturing and Preserving the World’s Cultural Heritage

As a global leader in fine art preservation, Arius utilizes proprietary 3D optical laser-scanning systems to produce high-fidelity digital twins of physical masterpieces. At the core of our scanning capabilities is Moneta, a mobile 3D optical laser scanner designed to travel directly to the artwork.

Perfect for scanning non-transportable treasures, such as delicate frescoes adorning historic walls, architectural monuments throughout Vatican City, Moneta captures surface texture and geometry on-site.

This technology allows cultural institutions, conservators, and museum custodians to study, preserve, and democratize access to world heritage without subjecting original works to transport risks or environmental degradation.

“It was a privilege to attend the inaugural unveiling of AQVA at Vatican City,” said Marco Antonio Soriano. “A country without art is a nation without culture. At Arius, our primary mission is to preserve fine art for all to enjoy. The Vatican Apostolic Library stands as one of the world's premier custodians of human knowledge, and witnessing this milestone reinforces our commitment to deploying state-of-the-art optical technology to protect shared global heritage for generations to come.”

Monsignor Giovanni Cesare Pagazzi highlighted the forward-looking vision of the exhibition series, emphasizing that the initiative fosters a dynamic dialogue between contemporary innovation and centuries-old heritage, balancing fidelity to the past with a commitment to the future.

Soriano’s participation highlights Arius’ position as a leader in fine art digitization, as well as The Soriano Group’s continued investment in global cultural initiatives and sustainable innovation.

From Vatican City to Monaco: Meet Arius Pioneers at the Club Vivanova Gala

About AQVA at Catastrofe e Meraviglia

Inaugurated by Pope Leo XIV on September 14, 2026, AQVA is the opening exhibition of Catastrofe e Meraviglia ("Catastrophe and Wonder"), a major five-year exhibition series at the Vatican Apostolic Library (Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana). The initiative explores humanity's relationship with natural elements as a reflection of our shared anxieties, hopes, and vulnerability. Centred on the dual nature of water, both as a vital resource and a destructive threat to library heritage, AQVA bridges centuries-old treasures with contemporary creative disciplines. The exhibition features site-specific installations by artist JR, typography by Bill Moran, and culinary narrative works by chef Fulvio Pierangelini, alongside historical manuscripts, scientific treatises, and insights from the Vatican's Conservation and Restoration Laboratory. A Global Vision Realised: Arius Europe Connects Rome, Paris, and Washington D.C

A Global Vision Realised: Arius Europe Connects Rome, Paris, and Washington D.C. to Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary

Arius, a global pioneer in high-fidelity 3D laser scanning and fine art preservation, is bridging European artistic heritage with American history in a profound celebration of community, culture, and faith.

Under the visionary leadership of Arius Europe CEO, Marco Antonio Soriano, working in a powerful tandem with Chief Revenue Officer, Patrick Bruce-Lockhart, a sweeping global initiative to preserve and democratise cultural heritage has reached an unprecedented milestone.

Travelling from the historic heart of Rome, through the international halls of UNESCO in Paris, this transatlantic journey culminates in an extraordinary privilege: an invitation to exhibit on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for America’s 250th-anniversary celebrations.

From June 25 to July 10, 2026, within the grand anchor pavilions of the Great American State Fair, Arius will stand alongside the National Endowment for the Arts to welcome the millions of visitors expected to gather in the nation's capital.

Championing Heritage Preservation on Capitol Hill

The realisation of this transatlantic vision follows a pivotal visit to Washington, D.C. by Marco Antonio Soriano, who recently took the stage at a special event on Capitol Hill. Advocating for global art preservation, Soriano highlighted Arius’s pioneering work, demonstrating how the European team's localised efforts have blossomed into a worldwide standard for safeguarding human history.

A Celebration of Devotion in the Faith & Family Pavilion

Positioned inside the vibrant Faith & Family Pavilion, Arius will exhibit museum-quality, textured reproductions of the figure of Jesus from Piero della Francesca’s iconic Renaissance fresco, The Resurrection, located at the Museo Civico Sansepolcro, Italy.

By transporting the intricate, tactile essence of this sacred masterpiece to the National Mall, Arius is demonstrating how cutting-edge technology can foster deep spiritual and community connections, allowing millions of passing families to experience a cornerstone of European heritage up close.

"Art is a universal language, and our goal at Arius is to remove the physical barriers that keep these masterpieces confined to a single geographic location," said Marco Antonio Soriano, CEO of Arius Europe. "Presenting our preservation initiatives on Capitol Hill was an incredible opportunity to show how technology protects global heritage. By sharing the brilliance of the Sansepolcro fresco at the United States’ 250th anniversary, we are proving that the future of art can be open and inclusive."

An Interactive, Multi-Sensory Experience

The exhibition goes beyond visual appreciation, offering a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience that underscores Arius’s commitment to radical accessibility:

  • Live Digitisation: Fairgoers will get a first-hand look at the intricate 3D laser scanning process during live demonstrations.

  • Tactile American History: Alongside The Resurrection, Arius will showcase elevated, tactile prints designed for public interaction. Visitors will be able to literally feel the texture of historic works, including the US Declaration of Independence and George Washington, from Barry Faulkner’s iconic Constitution mural.

"By converting historic masterpieces into engaging textured reproductions, we aren't just archiving history, we are making it accessible to everyone, everywhere," added Paul Lindahl, global CEO of Arius Technology.

Open to museum professionals, collectors, and the general public, The Great American State Fair highlights how Arius’s digital twins are fueling interactive educational programs worldwide. This monumental event builds seamlessly upon Arius’s previous accessibility milestones, including its celebrated partnership with America’s National Audubon Society.
