F1 Driver Charles Leclerc Gifts His Victorious Ferrari Race Car SF90 To HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco

April 2021 marked a ‘mini-homecoming’ for the Monegasque F1 driver Charles Leclerc, as the racer gifted his iconic Ferrari single seater F1 race car SF90 to HSH Prince Albert. This car was driven by Leclerc during his victories at the Belgian GP and the Italian GP in the 2019 season, a feat the entire Principality is proud of.

At the Belgian Grand Prix, started the race in pole position, and continued his dominance throughout the race, finishing first. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished behind in second and third position respectively. Leclerc’s teammate, Sebastian Vettel, just missed out on the podium, as he finished at a more than respectable 4th position.

Similarly, at the Italian Grand Prix, Leclerc started at pole position and finished at the same. Hamilton and Bottas switched positions however, with the latter finishing second this time. Vettel however, managed to finish at a mediocre 13th place, especially since Ferrari is considered to be one of the best teams in the game.

Considered by many as one of the best drivers on the grid, Leclerc was gifted the car by the Scuderia Ferrari team; and as a tribute to the place he grew up in, he then decided to pass on the present to the sovereign. The SF90 adds to the Prince’s personal car collection, or the Monaco Top Car Collection as it is so often called. The collection already includes a Porsche 928, 1986 Lamborghini Countach, 1942 Ford GPW among others, which have been collected over a period of more than 30 years.

Speaking about the car, Prince Albert said –
“It’s wonderful! I thank Charles very much for having made this gesture to us and it is true that it has its place here. It fits perfectly into the logic of the Collection, which is to present old and modern vehicles, which trace the history of the automobile and motor racing.”

The collection currently sits at the terrace of the Fontvielle Centre Commercial; and is currently closed to the public due to the Pandemic. However, when it does re-open, it will surely create a certain buzz.

Metabolic Balance Presents Weekly Recipes with Ingredients That Are Going To Make You Feel Amazing - Part 2 Arugula

Whether in pesto, as a salad or on a pizza – arugula is not only very popular, but also absolutely healthy. The dark green leaf salad with the spicy flavor is rich in vitamin C and thus supports the immune system. In addition, arugula contains folic acid, other B vitamins, plenty of beta-carotene as well as potassium, iron, magnesium and calcium. Its bitter substances also ensure a healthy metabolism. Due to their intense taste, the bitter substances are responsible for the rapid onset of salivary and digestive juices. The feeling of satiety is thus accelerated and we feel full faster. Arugula thus also prevents cravings and becomes a multi-talent on the plate.

This tasty side dish exudes a touch of exoticism: arugula salad with olive mango dressing.

You need:
1 serving of vegetables (for example olives and arugula)
1 tablespoon of chopped shallots
1 serving of mango
balsamic vinegar
salt, black pepper

Preparation:
Pureé the olives with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Peel the mango, remove the pulp from the core and cut into small cubes. Purée some of the cubes under the dressing, set aside the rest. Mix the onion cubes with the dressing. Wash, clean and dry arugula. Mix with the mango cubes and the dressing. Enjoy a protein according to plan – a fish fillet or fried tofu goes well. Yummy!

Strawberry-arugula salad with anglerfish
1 serving of anglerfish medallions
1 serving of arugula
1 tablespoon of chopped onion
1 serving of strawberries
1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
salt, black pepper
some oil

Preparation:
Wash the arugula leaves, throw dry and pluck them into pieces. Wash the strawberries and cut them into slices without sepals. Quarter the onion. Then cut into thin strips. Mix the balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper and a little oil. Add salt and pepper to the fish and heat a little oil in a pan. Put in the fish medallions and fry by medium heat for about 2 minutes per side. Spread the arugula on a plate, add the strawberry slices and onion and sprinkle with the vinegar dressing. Place the fried fish next to it or on it and enjoy!

NOBU Monte Carlo is back from April 22nd.

NOBU FAIRMONT MONTE CARLO
Few restaurants can boast an international reputation, and few chefs can boast of having their creative vision of contemporary cuisine replicated around the world with as much success. Nobu can, and the Fairmont Monte Carlo’s spin on the concept has reached new heights of absolute perfection. A thrilling restaurant and a playground for the jet-set, Nobu is an immersive experience to be enjoyed without moderation. Exceptional Asian cuisine with hints of South American influence in a stylish, intimate dining space as well as a lounge and bar, 2 private areas, a sushi bar and a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean.

The restaurant capacity is of main room 150 seats, terrace 40 seats, lounge bar 60 to seat. For an ultra-exclusive service and an unforgettable experience, the Nobu Fairmont Monte Carlo designs and hosts private dinners. The perfect illustration of bringing the magic of Nobu into homes and exclusive locations.

On May 2019, the NOBU Fairmont Monte Carlo has welcome Wagner Spadacio to his new position as Sushi Master to confirm his continuous pursuit of excellence…

Wagner, originally from Brazil, arrived in France at the age of 14 and began his career in 2008 after graduating from the Lycée Notre Dame de La Providence in Orchies (North region).

He first trained in French and Italian cuisine and then began his Japanese culinary career in 2010 after obtaining the certificate of Pro Sushi Chef in Paris.

His first experience as a Sushi man took place in Monaco. From there, his passion for Japanese culture developed.
In 2016, he participated in the French Open Sushi Competition, where he finished as the winner. This experience allowed him to become French Sushi Champion in 2017.

All his efforts paid off in 2018 when he competed in the World Sushi Cup in Tokyo where he became Vice Sushi World Champion.

However, his career in the world of Japanese cuisine was not predetermined….

He studied at the Lycée Notre Dame de La Providence in Orchies and obtained his BEP in 2006 as well as his BAP PRO in the hotel industry with the “cuisine” option in 2008.

During his studies, he had the opportunity to do several internships in prestigious restaurants. Between 2006 and 2007, he worked for a few months at Dolce Chantilly in Chantilly (1 Michelin star).

A few months later, he joined the team at Number 10 Manchester Street hotel in London, specializing in luxury gastronomy.

During his first experiences, he learned a lot about French and Italian cuisine and it was only a few years later that he found his way by being hired at Avenue 31 in Monaco as Second Sushi man. He works with Chef Toshimi Takiya, former Chef of Moshi Moshi, who knows how to instil in him a love of sushi and refine his techniques.

After two very rewarding years in Monaco, he decided to leave to live his own experiences. He settles for a season in Saint Barthélémy where he works at the Sereno (5-star hotel) as Second Sushi man where he manages the sushi bar alone.

Then, he joined the team at Sumosan restaurant in Monaco and finally arrived as Head Sushi Chef at Buddha Bar. In 2017, while working there, he was elected French Sushi Champion: it was then that he embarked on a new challenge, that of becoming the world champion in Tokyo.

In the months before the championship, he went to Japan to discover the secrets of Japanese gastronomy and trained at the Bazara restaurant in Tokyo run by chef Hirohisa Koyama, 3 Michelin stars. His sacrifices and determination will pay off as he finishes as Vice World Champion of Sushi on August 24, 2018.

Metabolic Balance Presents Weekly Recipes with Ingredients That Are Going To Make You Feel Amazing - Part 1 Papaya

Papaya originated in Central America and Southern Mexico but is now grown in many other parts of the world. Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which can break down the tough protein chains found in muscle meat. Because of this, people have used papaya to tenderize meat for thousands of years.

Papaya is a true superstar among exotic fruits. But how do you actually deal with the orange multi-talent? #MetabolicBalance gives some hints:

Purchase: The peel of the papaya should ideally already have yellow stripes or spots. Only then the fruit ripens completely. The degree of ripeness can also be recognized from the consistency of the pulp: The easier the pulp can be pressed in, the riper the fruit is.

Consumption: Cut the papaya lengthwise for immediate consumption and peel out the seeds with a spoon. Then the fruit halves can be sprinkled with a little lemon or lime juice, when you are not in the plan. The pulp can be easily spooned out.

Storage: Papayas that are not yet fully ripe are best kept in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight. Mature fruits can also be stored in the fridge for up to a week. For storage, the pulp of the papaya can be frozen in bags.

Today we have a particularly delicious recipe for you!
How about duck breast spinach salad with papaya

Ingredients for 1 person
1 serving of duck breast (without skin)
1 serving of spinach
Pinch salt, black pepper
1 serving of papaya
Ginger
Cinnamon

Preparation
Wash the duck breast cold, cut into small pieces and fry in a coated pan. Then add a little water and let it simmer. Season with salt and pepper. Peel the papaya, remove the seeds and cut into pieces. Season the pulp with ginger and cinnamon. Wash the spinach and spin it dry. Add the papaya and spinach to the poultry and simmer at medium heat for 10 minutes. Enjoy!

Perfect as a breakfast drink: this papaya soy shake is delicious

For 1 serving you need:
1 serving of papaya
1 serving of soya milk
1 serving of oat flakes (fine)
1 knife tip ginger powder

Peel the papaya, remove the seeds and cut the pulp into cubes. Add papaya, oatmeal and soy milk into a high bowl, season with ginger powder and puree with a blender. Yummie!

French Riviera Artist Launches Ethereal Collection - Specially Handcrafted To Enhance Superyacht Interiors - Carol Bruton’s Artwork Mimics The Reflections And Ripples Of Water

Launched in time for the Mediterranean yachting season, Raindrops is a new series of superyacht artworks crafted by Artist and Sculptor Carol Bruton. Based in the South of France, her work highlights her fascination with our most precious of elements, water.

Specially handcrafted to enhance superyacht interiors, the surface effects of Bruton’s artworks allow the flow of both natural and artificial light, complimenting the interior ambience. Her technique uses cold glass and raw pigments which results in an interplay of colour and an ethereal interpretation that exudes energy and fluidity, mirroring the reflections and ripples that water creates.

Echoing the prestige of Bruton’s work, you’ll find the artist in the spotlight as accolades grow. She was chosen as Saatchi’s revered ‘Artist of the Day’, profiled in the UK editions of Vogue and Tatler, and has exhibited at Art Basel Miami, Beijing Biennale and Accademia Fine Art in Monaco. Her work is found in private collections worldwide, including pieces housed in the Princely Collection of H.S.H Prince Albert II of Monaco, former racing driver David Coulthard, Chairman Susan Feaster from St Moritz U.S. Celebrity Golf Cup and Banque Havilland in Monaco.

L’art de vivre onboard

A keen ocean swimmer, Bruton started painting in a tiny fishing village in Costa del Sol in Spain, drawing on inspiration from her surroundings.  She says her dream clients are “those yacht owners who get goosebumps when they see my work.”  Elements of the earth, sky and ocean interplay into her artwork, an artistic evolution that effortlessly induces organic patterns reminiscent of blue holes in the Caribbean or the reflective qualities of Mediterranean coastlines.

Her appeal in the superyacht sector is profound, owing to the aesthetic beauty of her artwork that makes visual statements that draw admiration.  She crafted The Superyacht Show’s Richard Earp Award named Ocean's 9, a fluid sculpture made from steel and finished with a transparent coloured coating with a gleaming surface that resembles the morning light shining on the ocean.

Perfectly in line with refinement, superyacht interiors highlight artisanship, beauty and escapism; furniture inlaid with exotic wood, hand-blown glassware, porcelain tableware, soft furnishings and opulent antiques.  Regardless of the size of the superyacht, it is no longer enough to have artwork that’s solely aesthetically pleasing.  Aside from period styles and decorative trends, superyachts can house expansive collections that raise more eyebrows than famous art museums. A bespoke art collection is more than an asset; it showcases the owner’s personality, strengthens the corporate image and piques the attention of guests.

Specialist advice is vital and superyacht owners’ partner with interior designers to curate pieces for their floating galleries – space can be at a premium and there may be limitations in terms of ceiling height or lighting.   Onboard, there’s protection from the main factors that usually deteriorate precious art, such as fluctuations in humidity and temperature variations. Other practical considerations arise such as placement of the artwork, customs regulations, insurance and security.

Bruton’s work defines a journey into the cosmos – to get all the pain and suffering out from the human level into a cosmic peace.  She says, “I want to leave the human pain behind and portray that with silence and listening. Nicole Stott went to the moon twice and once told me that my work reminds her of what she saw from the space shuttle; the light, the blue, and how fragile her vision of the earth was, how fragile we look. She saw my work and it reminded her of Earth from space. That was a huge compliment.”

There’s a special relationship between Bruton and her creativity; she has a young child with a medical condition and has dedicated her artistic career to donating her profits to research towards this illness.  Each artwork is a personal journey that leads to hope for a cure, therefore when someone acquires a piece of her art it’s a subtle gesture that makes the process so memorable.

The benefit of commissioning bespoke artwork for a yacht is that they can be made, not only to custom sizes, but colours can be chosen to match and enhance the existing decor.

If you are looking for an artwork that goes far beyond the usual, Carol Bruton’s sculptures that are evocative of water are a fine addition to a collection for yachting aficionados who expect uncompromised quality.

A Unique & Unified Auction of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti - The World’s Most Collectible Wines - Featured by Zachys New York

Friday 7th May 2021 - New York
View the pdf catalogue

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produces what few would dispute are the world’s most collectible wines!

Its pre-eminence is such that the cognoscenti refer to it simply as “The Domaine”. If you’re just getting into Burgundy, the reverence may seem a bit much, but a look at their vineyard holdings makes their supremacy a bit more understandable.

The jewel in the crown is the vineyard of Romanée-Conti itself. This site, initially called the Clos des Croux, was originally owned by the Benedictine monks of the abbey of Saint- Vivant de Vergy. The monks had received the vineyards from the Duchess of Burgundy Alix de Vergy in 1232. The property was sold by the monks in 1584 and renamed La Romanée in the 17th Century. The vineyard passed through several owners before being purchased by Louis-François de Bourbon in 1760. His status as the cousin of King Louis XV afforded him the title of Prince de Conti, giving rise to the current name of the vineyard.

After the Revolution, Romanée-Conti was sold to raise money for the fledgling Republic, and ended up in the hands of Jules Ouvrard, the son of Napoléon’s banker. Upon his death, the heirs sold the vineyard to Jacques-Marie Duvault-Blochet, the ancestor of the de Villaine family, who still own the domaine, in partnership with the Leroy family. In 1911 Edmond Gaudin de Villaine purchased the winery which had originally belonged to the monks of the abbey. He moved the winemaking from Santenay, where Duvault-Blochet had been based, to Vosne-Romanée, near the vineyards, and gave the new winery its cur- rent name.

Duvault-Blochet amassed impressive vineyard holdings during his lifetime, including prime parcels in Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, Echézeaux, and Grands-Echézeaux, as well as a plot called Les Gaudichots. Gaudichots adjoined a vineyard called La Tâche, which was owned by Count Liger-Belair. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti often sold Gaudichots under the name of La Tâche, much to the irritation of Liger-Belair, who unsuccessfully sued them.

At the death of the Comtesse Liger-Belair in 1931, La Tâche was sold to the Domaine, and the entire site of more than six hectares was then known as La Tâche. Romanée-Conti and La Tâche are both wholly-owned by Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and are thus referred to in French as “monopoles”. These are the two most desirable wines from DRC, although the Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Echézeaux, and Grands-Echézeaux are all made in the same way.

All of the vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic principals, and yields are kept very low. The hand-picked bunches are fermented whole in open-top wooden fermenters before being aged for approximately a year and a half in new casks. In addition to the parcels that they own, DRC leases (since 2009) just over two hectares of Corton from the heirs of the Prince de Mérode family.

While red wines form the bulk of the production at DRC, it would be a mistake to overlook the Montrachet. This white wine is produced from 0.67 hectares of vines in Chassagne- Montrachet. The result is rich and lush, with a luxurious heft on the palate almost recall- ing the density of their red wines. The Domaine is about to move further into white wine production, since they have recently leased 2.8 hectares of vineyards from Bonneau du Martray and will begin to produce Corton-Charlemagne with the 2019 vintage. In total, they own just over 25.5 hectares of vines and lease another five hectares in Corton, and every drop is a wine lover’s dream.

What does all of this history mean for you, the collector? A bottle of DRC is a vinous experience like no other. At Zachys, we often get asked if the wine can justify its price tag. For collectors of DRC, or for those who have tasted it, the answer is almost always yes. For those for whom the wine is a bit more aspirational, a combination of the wine itself, and the history to which you are connected when you pop a cork, is a joint-experience rare in the wine world.

The Latest 2021 UK Budget - What Are The Implications For Expatriates?

While there was little in the way of immediate changes in the latest UK Budget, the freezing of some allowances is set to increase tax bills in the long run.

This year’s UK Budget predictably focused on ongoing pandemic support, bringing very few changes to personal taxes. Chancellor Rishi Sunak did, however, introduce some longer-term measures to collect more tax by freezing the main allowances and exemptions for the next five years.

According to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the overall impact of these measures will be that the UK’s tax burden will rise to its highest level since the 1960s!

So what changes in April may affect UK nationals living in France, and what can you do to minimise any negative impact?

Income tax

UK taxpayers (including non-UK residents) see a slight increase to the personal income tax allowance thresholds at each end: £12,570 at the basic 20% tax band and £50,270 at the higher 40% rate. However, these will be frozen until at least April 2026.

This is estimated to bring 1.3 million more people into income tax liability, with one million more paying the higher tax rate, altogether netting an extra £8 billion in the 2025/6 tax year.

Savings and investments

The band of UK savings income that can be earned tax-free stays at £5,000 and the annual ISA subscription limit at £20,000 (£9,000 for a Junior ISA).

The dividend allowance remains at £2,000.

Remember: investments like ISAs may become taxable in France once you are non-UK resident. Take time to explore alternative arrangements that may be more tax efficient and better suit your circumstances, goals and risk appetite.

Capital gains tax (CGT)

As with income tax, the annual allowance will be frozen for the next five years. Unlike income tax, the CGT allowance does not increase, staying at its current level of £12,300 for individuals (£6,150 for most trusts).

Despite expectations that CGT rates would be aligned with income tax rates, there is no change here, so rates remain between 10% and 28%.

Don’t forget that, in recent years, non-UK residents became liable for capital gains tax on most UK property and land.

Pensions

Annual allowance: This remains at £40,000 – as it has been since 2016 – and starts reducing once ‘adjusted income’ reaches £240,000.

Lifetime allowance (LTA) – This will not increase with inflation as planned so remains at £1,073,100, where it sticks until at least 2026.

If your combined UK pension benefits are near the LTA threshold, you need to consider the potential impact of future growth. If investment markets recover in line with the Chancellor’s forecast that the economy will return to pre-pandemic levels by mid-2022, this could bring many more pension funds within the scope of the LTA’s 25% or 55% penalties. The Treasury expects to collect an extra £250 million as a result.

QROPS – There were no changes to Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes, with transfers to EU/EEA-based QROPS still tax-free for EU residents. The 25% ‘overseas transfer charge’ continues to only apply to transfers outside the EU/EEA. But now the UK has left the bloc, this could potentially be extended to capture EU transfers in future.

Once in a QROPS, UK pension funds become immune to LTA penalties and future changes to UK pension rules while unlocking other benefits, so carefully consider your options here.

Inheritance tax

Despite much anticipation that this year could see inheritance tax changes, again the only action was freezing the exemptions, allowances and reliefs for the next five years.

The tax-free ‘nil rate band’ allowance stays at £325,000 per person (unchanged since 2009!) The residential nil rate band (RNRB) – which provides extra tax relief when passing on a main home (including overseas) to direct descendants – remains at £175,000 per person.

The Treasury collected £5.2 billion in inheritance taxes in the 2019/20 tax year. With these latest freezes, they expect to generate an additional £15 million next year, increasing to £445 million by 2026.

What can you do to minimise the impact?

Although this new tax year brings relatively few changes, there are longer term implications. The Chancellor’s strategy of freezing allowances, exemptions and reliefs is clearly designed to raise more tax revenue as people’s income, capital gains, and asset values grow. Taxpayers may also feel the pinch as the cost of living increases over time.

Wherever possible, you should make full use of the available allowances each year to help minimise your tax bill. However, no one action in isolation will make a substantial difference. You need to make sure your overall financial arrangements are structured as tax efficiently as possible for your life in France to help minimise exposure for you and your heirs.

As always, subsequent Budgets can change the current trajectory by introducing new taxes with little notice, but this is especially likely as the economy picks up and the government looks to recoup its pandemic spending.

This is a good prompt to think ahead and review your tax planning to check you are making the most of all the available tax-efficient opportunities, in the UK and your country of residence. For the best results, take personalised advice from a cross-border specialist with understanding of both the UK and French tax regimes.

EU Post Brexit - Why It’s Time To 'Think Local' For Your Financial Planning In France

Now that Brexit is here, EU-resident Britons with UK bank accounts, investments or a UK-based financial adviser may see accounts closed or face restrictions. In these times of widespread restrictions and lockdowns, our worlds have become a lot smaller. Whether this will have a long-term effect on your travel, lifestyle and shopping habits will be a personal matter. But with Brexit now in full flow, UK nationals living in France have good reason to permanently ‘think local’ when it comes to financial arrangements.

Just as UK citizens lost automatic EU freedom of movement when Brexit took effect on 1 January, many UK financial businesses lost the right to provide banking and investment services within the EU. If you are resident in France but still use a UK bank account, other financial products or a UK-based financial adviser, make sure you check where you – and your money – stand.

UK financial services and Brexit
Before Brexit, UK firms providing financial services to Britons living in the EU could legally do so through ‘passporting’ arrangements. This meant UK providers – enforced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) – were committed to meet the same minimum standards and consumer protections for EU residents as other EU states.

But now that the UK (and the FCA) are free to make their own rules, the EU has no assurance that UK firms will meet their requirements. Consequently, on 1 January, the EU withdrew passporting rights for UK firms – including banks, insurance companies, investment providers and financial advisers. Now, some could even be breaking the law by working with EU residents.

Does this affect all UK financial firms?
This depends on various factors, including how a company is structured and where it is based. Those with headquarters in an EU country, for example, can retain their passporting licence and continue operating as before.

However, wholly UK-based firms who want to support EU-resident clients will likely need to restructure and form agreements with the financial regulators for each EU/EEA country they operate in. This is a highly complex, expensive and time-consuming process, so not a cost-effective option for all.

Negotiations on financial services are ongoing, so it is possible that the UK and EU may still reach an arrangement in this area. Some companies may be holding out for this before going through the potentially unnecessary expense of restructuring. Others have already withdrawn from EU markets.

Some major UK banks have informed EU-based clients that they cannot provide services for them post-Brexit and closed their accounts. Other providers have kept accounts/policies open but suspended activity, or are allowing them to run until the end of their term.

How might this affect you?
If you hold a British bank account, insurance policy, investment or other financial product and your provider hasn’t contacted you about limited services, ask them what arrangements they have in place for France.

If your account has not been closed, has it been frozen? In some cases, while you may be able to retain existing accounts and make withdrawals as an EU resident, you may be restricted from adding or moving funds or renewing policies. You may also be unable to apply for new services, such as term deposits, bonds, foreign currency management, loans, credit cards and mortgages.

If you still use a UK-based financial adviser, check they have the authority to continue supporting you as a French resident. Besides the legal implications – and whether you are protected if things go wrong – some financial institutions have stopped accepting instructions from UK-based (unregulated) providers. So if you hold EU-based investments, your planning options may be significantly limited with a UK adviser.

Post-Brexit financial planning for France
Even if the financial services issue does not affect you, there are other key benefits to thinking more local for your finances.

Still holding on to UK savings and investments? Now that UK assets are no longer EU/EEA assets, they could potentially attract a higher tax bill within the EU. ISAs are also taxable in France for non-UK residents. Own UK property? Remember: EU residents are still in the firing line for UK stamp duty and capital gains tax.

Meanwhile, French residents have access to opportunities that can offer better tax-efficiency and other potential benefits, so make sure you review your options.

What about UK pensions? This is not so straightforward. You may be better off leaving them in the UK and drawing income as needed in France. However, while Brexit does not affect the ability to receive UK pension income into an EU account, it will always be paid in sterling, so the value could be adversely affected by exchange rates and conversion costs. Explore whether it may be more beneficial for you to transfer funds out of the UK into a tax-efficient structure for France. Doing so could also unlock currency flexibility and estate planning benefits, but be sure to take specialist, regulated advice to do what’s right for you.

With Brexit bringing such a seismic shift in the landscape, it has never been more important to ensure your financial arrangements are compliant and suitable for your life in France. A specialist, locally-based adviser is best placed to help you take advantage of suitable opportunities here and secure financial peace of mind for you and your family.

Zachys Wine Auctions - La Paulée Returns With La Paulée Mondiale 2021 from 10th to 21st March - Fine And Rare Wines Of The World

The auction event of the season has returned yet again to the delight of oenophiles and Burgundy connoisseurs everywhere! If you’re a seasoned La Paulée veteran, then that’s all you needed to hear; head over to the sale and start bidding. If this is your first La Paulée, then please allow us to introduce you to the premier auction and event of the year!

Historically, La Paulée is a traditional Burgundian celebration held at the end of the harvest season in November. This practice can trace its roots all the way back the middle ages where it was once a widespread practice throughout France. At that time, the Cistercian monks invited their vineyard laborers to dine and celebrate the end of the harvest with them. Nowadays, La Paulée most commonly refers to the modern festivities held in Meursault that were revived by Jules Lafon. In 1923, Lafon was one of Burgundy’s most respected wine growers and held this first modern version of the celebration at his Meursault domaine. Back then, the event consisted only of a small banquet in the vat-room with his guests.

La Paulée Mondiale 10th to 21st March 2021

Over time, the banquet became an officially established, annual cultural event as more and more neighboring viticulturists joined the festivities. As such, La Paulée has evolved from the original, modest communal banquet held in Lafon’s vat room; today, the official La Paulée de Meursault is attended by Meursault growers and producers alike along with several other wine connoisseurs and professionals, and the most sought after ticket of the famous and grand three-day Burgundy weekend, that culminates in the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction.

La Paulée as we know and love, and celebrate every year in March, has taken place in New York, San Francisco, and Aspen, Colorado and captures the spirit of the Burgundian tradition through a fantastic program of events revolving around the wonderful wines of the region.

This year, for obvious reasons, La Paulée has gone virtual! La Paulée Mondiale will take place from March 10th to 21st, and offers a rich itinerary of online events diligently produced by the award-winning sommelier Daniel Johnnes (who originally brought the celebration stateside back in 2000) and the La Paulée team. Highlights include: online seminars exploring specific Burgundy vineyards sites with both winemakers and geologists, winemaker interviews, exclusive content directly from the fine winemakers of Burgundy, and a self-guided Grand Tasting! Of particular note is the panel on March 10th presented by La Paulée & Zachys: “Wine Auctions: Tips on Bidding, Buying, Consigning, and Avoiding Pitfalls”; anybody new to the auction portion of La Paulée will want to check this one out!

So quit your lollygagging; you don’t want to miss out! Head over to the sale page and explore what’s available (it’s all good). Also be sure to also check out La Paulée for the full scoop on all the online festivities going on this year! And, as always, tune back into the blog for all things Zachys Wine Auctions.

TDoS Launches The Aegir 2.0 - The Superyacht With The Lowest Possible Environmental Footprint

Aegir 2.0 is the name of the wind-powered trimaran designed by TDoS which is an upgraded version of the Aegir, which was launched in 2019. The luxurious sailing yacht with green technology will make her the cleanest possible superyacht to date.

The trimaran hull was chosen to prevent heeling, contain a stable platform and provide more generous deck space compared to traditional sailing yachts. By combining excellent hydronics with a hybrid wind-electric hybrid propulsion system that re-charges the batteries when under sail, the Aegir 2.0 has a virtually infinite range.

With an infinity pool in the aft and a Jacuzzi in the fore, the pool deck becomes the main platform for recreation. The seamless indoor-to-outdoor transition is enhanced by the grand panoramic glass walls surrounding the lounge and dining area. Offering guests an unobstructed sea view, the sky deck above is an open-air viewing platform with bar and lounge seating that adds to the unique outdoor experience. The exterior design is characterized by the black “wing” that connects the generous, extended open decks with the trimaran pontoons. The Scandinavian-style clean and sleek hull lines serve as a base for the grand DynaRig.

The interior of Aegir 2.0 is defined by the combination of functionality and attention to detail with pure Scandinavian minimalism. Subtle colours matched with organic and light natural materials enhance the elegance of the ship. Aegir provides spacious rooms with generous light openings, offering a perfect home-away-from-home world where guests enjoy life both ashore and at sea.
